Instead of sitting down to a freshly cooked meal around the dining table, Brits are now more likely to have a takeaway or ready meal in front of the television. One man wants to change this. At just 26, Gordon Jones is the youngest head chef at one of the country’s leading five-star hotels, the Royal Crescent in Bath. Each week he picks two virgin cooks and fast-tracks them to fantastic home cooking – teaching them recipes and slashing their weekly food budget. The winner is challenged to take over a restaurant and cook a three-course dinner for friends and family – with the loser acting as the sous-chef.
